Welcome to the Screen Writers Prize, the CASH prize dedicated solely to promoting the development of talented screenwriters who demonstrate a professional attitude in their work.

The Screenwriters Prize is a consortium of accomplished professionals: actors, musicians, screenwriters, lawyers, doctors and others who have committed considerable resources to helping us realize our ideal. What is that ideal? It’s both simple and revolutionary at the same time. The “prize” part of our name is cash. The purpose of that cash is to give the winners of the Screenwriters Prize the means to live while devoting themselves to their craft FULL-TIME for a while.

The Screenwriters Prize is not about promising anyone that “big break” or entrée into Hollywood, although we certainly will promote the contest and the name of the winners enough to get attention. It’s all about giving outstanding screenwriters the opportunity to devote themselves entirely to screenwriting.

We want screenwriters to display in their work those qualities that really make a script readable: brevity, clarity, and economy. Readability is a MUST, as this is what gets your script past the “readers” in Hollywood who look for a reason to give up on a script within the first 10 pages. Readability is the hallmark of professionalism when it comes to screenwriting.

These days, it seems as if everyone is writing a screenplay, from your kid’s pediatrician to the waiter at your favorite restaurant. Not only that, the heady days of million dollar “spec script” deals are long gone…screenwriters actually have to work for a living again.

That’s where the Screenwriters Prize comes in. The winners will be given a respite, at least for a while, from the daily grind so they can focus on their scripts…they’ll still have to work, but that work will be to CREATE and LIVE THE DREAM.
